Bio
How I Got Here
My name is Maya Goldberg. I am a HESP (Hearing and Speech) Major and on a Pre-Med track at the University of Maryland College Park. I am also in Public Leadership Scholars.
I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. I went to Berman Hebrew Academy for elementary, middle, and high school. Something you might not know about me is as a child I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease. The doctors said it was chronic and potentially fatal. It really affected my childhood, but as of 2016, I can thankfully say I am in “remission”. In 2019-2020 I took a gap year studying religious texts in Israel. In high school I took leadership roles in Mock Trial, Model UN, Softball, Israel Action Committee, volunteering, and started an a cappella group. In scholars I hope to develop a great sense of culture and diversity. I have already read amazing articles on privilege, poverty, and democracy. I am also looking forward to gaining a better understanding of myself. What my strengths are and how I can successfully contribute to a team or society. When a problem or crisis occurs I want to know how I would handle it and how I can improve on my response to an issue. Finally, I am excited and eager to learn from my peers. Everyone in PL has a background or story which I can listen to and learn from. (Nov. 17 2020)
